Afghan Ministry of Higher Education Taps Camilla Barry for Science Curriculum Textbook
Since 2003, Camilla Barry has traveled to Afghanistan nearly every summer to teach hands-on science to students and in teacher training classes.  Her enthusiastic students spread the word about her innovative teaching methods.  In 2009, the Ministry of Higher Education invited her to work with them to prepare an entire series of  lessons translated into Pashto and Dari languages, and illustrated by an Afghan illustrator.  In the summer of 2010 and the spring of 2011 she was again in Afghanistan to complete the work on a book of lessons entitled:  Science Without A Laboratory, which is now in the process of being published by the Ministry.  Camilla's contribution of hands-on science to teach critical thinking using local materials will soon have a countrywide impact.

Music Legends Taj Mahal and Maria Muldaur celebrate Wonderful Women of Science
In May of 2011, the wonderful jazz and blues artists Taj Mahal and Maria Muldaur generously contributed a benefit performance at the Freight and Salvage Club in Berkeley to honor Camilla Barry and two other women using science to bring development and opportunity around the world:  in Afghanistan, Tanzania and California.  We also raffled and sold many beautiful Afghan handicrafts that Camilla had brought from her most recent trip. The house was full for a joyful occasion and a chance to reach new supporters for CAC.

Camilla's dedication to helping the Afghan people by teaching critical thinking through hands-on science lessons using local plants and materials for the past seven years has resulted in many fascinating stories that she wants to share to increase awareness about the plight of education in that country.

If you’re interested in learning about life in Kabul and beyond – what you don’t get in news reports, you’ll want to hear from Camilla.

If you’re interested in watching hands-on science demonstrations that are taught in Afghanistan – where labs and supplies are nearly non-existent, you’ll want to hear from Camilla.

If you’re interested in learning about a successful micro-business that began with a hands-on science lesson, you’ll want to hear from Camilla.

You will be fascinated from the very first minute of her visual presentation.
